The Art Of Noticing

Some of the best things about the mountains are the little things.

The Beauty of Feeling Small

I've always loved the mountains. There's something about being surrounded by something so much bigger than yourself that puts everything else into perspective. The worries of everyday life seem to fade into the background, and for a moment, you can simply enjoy being there.

The breathtaking views, the fresh air, the sound of rushing water. It's not just the beauty of the mountains, but the way they make you feel. And that feeling has a way of staying with you long after you've left.

How Mountain Senses Began

One day, I was stuck inside wishing I could be outdoors. I didn't have time to get away, but I wanted to feel a little of what I love about being in the mountains.

I thought about the fresh smells, searching for rocks (I'm a rock person!), and the crackle of a fire. Beside me was a photograph of me and my friends in Norway. Just looking at it brought back the happiness of being there, and I wondered how I could bring those little experiences home.

As I imagined the scents, the stones, the sounds, and that photograph, I began to relax. I closed my eyes for a moment, and I was somewhere happy. That simple idea became Mountain Senses.

The Senses Behind the Name

That experience reminded me how closely our senses are connected to our memories. Sometimes, something as simple as a familiar scent, texture, or sound can take us right back to a place or moment we love. As you look through the photographs below, imagine what you might smell, feel, or hear. Does one bring back a memory of your own?

A MOMENT FOR YOU

Before You Go...

I hope you'll pause, take in the sights and sounds around you, and notice the beauty in the little things.

There is joy in slowing down.
